Our community is proud of our veterans serving in the defense of freedom. Walnut instituted the veteran's flag recognition program to recognize the sacrifice of these veterans. Walnut was the first community in the San Gabriel Valley to place banner's on city street lights recognizing the name, and the branch of service of any veteran.
Walnut adopted the US Army Third Infantry Division ("Rock of the Marne" Division) to show special recognition to the soldiers who spearheaded Operation Iraqi Freedom. In addition, Walnut adopted the USS Constellation Carrier Battle Group which has since returned and placed in inactive status in Bremerton, Washington. Also adopted by the City was the First Marine Expeditionary Force from Camp Pendleton. I am proud to have instituted these programs.
USS Constellalation Ending Last Deployment
As long as our brave men and women are serving in Afghanistan or Iraq, a flag of each branch of the military service will fly over Walnut City Hall.
Any Walnut resident on active duty is entitled to receive a blue star flag to honor the veteran and the family from the Walnut City Council.
Call Joyce Wright at (909) 595-7543 to arrange for a blue star flag presentation at a City Council Meeting.
